The Littleport Seal

One of our guests woke up to see a 4-foot long adult seal resting on the back of a boat within sight of the Gatehouse. The seal was a common grey seal and had swum down the Great River Ouse from Kings Lynn. The seal was injured and had a fishing hook caught in its eye.

We reported the story to the Ely and Wisbech Standard, and for a while, the seal was a local celebrity. We were anxious that the seal was helped. The local newspapers and the BBC reported the sighting and happily reported that the hook had fallen out and the seal had made a full recovery.
